As the largest campus of The Compass Church, Naperville plays a pivotal role in the church’s multi-campus model, impacting thousands of people weekly through engaging worship, strong biblical teaching, and vibrant community outreach.
The next Naperville Campus Pastor will need to be a relational leader with high emotional intelligence, capable of fostering trust, collaboration, and strategic vision. This leader will shepherd and develop a high-capacity staff, investing in both high performers and those needing growth, ensuring they are equipped to fulfill The Compass Church’s mission of Helping People Find & Follow God. Since its founding in 1952, The Compass Church has been dedicated to biblical teaching, discipleship, and outreach. A member of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), The Compass Church is a multi-campus church serving Chicagoland with six locations: Naperville, Wheaton, Bolingbrook, South Naperville, Plainfield, and Hinsdale. Additionally, CompassOnline and Compass Español provide digital and Spanish-language ministry options.
The church’s story is one of growth, faith, and responsiveness to God’s calling. It began as Wheaton Evangelical Free Church in 1952 and soon planted a congregation in Naperville in 1957. Over the decades, the church experienced significant expansion, moving locations multiple times to accommodate growth. The transition to a multi-site model began in 2010, enabling The Compass Church to extend its reach throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. Through key reunifications, including Wheaton Evangelical Free Church (2015), New Song Church in Bolingbrook (2016), and Three Rivers Church in Plainfield (2022), The Compass Church has remained steadfast in its commitment to helping people find and follow God.
Today, The Compass Church continues to impact thousands of lives, with over 4,000 people gathering across multiple campuses each weekend. The church has prioritized flexibility in ministry while upholding biblical truth, ensuring that its reach extends both locally and globally. The Naperville Campus Pastor is a spiritually mature, high-capacity leader who will guide the campus in spiritual growth, staff development, and community impact. This role requires an experienced leader and shepherd who can balance executive leadership responsibilities with relational ministry. The ideal Naperville Campus Pastor will be a humble, relational, and strategic leader who thrives in staff development, discipleship, and community outreach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
Oversee evangelism and discipleship efforts, ensuring that hundreds of people each year find and grow in faith.
Advocate for The Compass Church’s four faith-growth Priorities: Pursue Him Daily, Connect in Groups, Serve in Teams, and Reach Your Neighbor.
Lead systems to help people connect through groups, membership, serving teams, and mission opportunities.
Campus Ministry & Operational Oversight
Oversee all ministry departments at the Naperville Campus, including CompassKids, Compass Students, Adult Ministries, Guest Services, Congregational Care, Support Groups, Community Impact, and Alternate Language Ministry.
Align staffing, budget, and strategies with church-wide objectives while ensuring effective execution at the campus level.
Ensure the campus meets key churchwide goals related to attendance, budget, baptisms, groups, teams, and community outreach.
Preaching & Teaching
Serve as the primary communicator for the campus (beyond the weekly teaching of the Senior Pastor).
Provide spiritual leadership through worship hosting, guest preaching, written and video communication, and teaching opportunities.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
Serve as a leader of leaders of leaders for a large, high-capacity staff.
Hire, train, and care for all campus staff, ensuring a healthy team culture and effective ministry execution.
Recruit, equip, and empower lay leaders, including Group Leaders, Team Leaders, and high-level Ministry Leaders.
Churchwide Collaboration & Engagement
Serve as part of The Compass Church’s Senior Staff, contributing to churchwide philosophy of ministry and culture.
Work collaboratively with other Campus Pastors and Executive Directors to align strategies across locations.
Participate in churchwide leadership meetings and pastoral functions such as baptisms, weddings, funerals, counseling, and pastoral care.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field.
5+ years of pastoral leadership experience.
A strong pastoral leader with the ability to shepherd, equip, and develop leaders at all levels.
A biblically grounded, spiritually mature individual with a deep personal relationship with God.
Proven ability to lead staff, volunteers, and lay leaders to accomplish the mission of the church.
A team player and mobilizer, fostering a collaborative and unified church culture.
A visionary leader who aligns with The Compass Church’s mission, vision, and theological values.
Must affirm the Statement of Faith of The Compass Church and the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).
Must be (or become) a member of The Compass Church within 12 months of employment and actively participate in weekend worship services.
